Artist Statement

"I look for the form things want to come as, from the black wells of possibility how a  thing will unfold... not so much looking for the  shape,   as being available to any shape  that may be summoning itself through me from the self, not mine, but ours.”

Poetics A.R. Ammons

Artist Statement

I identify with the artistic motivations of the Abstract Expressionist movement, viewing art as an expression of what wants and needs to come forth.  I work freely and spontaneously initially, allowing the content to literally find itself in the work through the use of a variety of tools and  techniques. Each piece involves intricate  layering of  paint and transparent glazes, with a focus on the design elements.

My work is both figurative and non objective,  and reflects the rhythm and  flow of life.  Some of the work is contemplative, suggesting the richness of inner work and solitude.  Other pieces are an expression of the outward connectedness of life, and reflect a deep curiosity toward all of life, expansive ideas, and connection with others.

I  experience the creative process in the same way that I approach and experience everything in life. Life cannot be coaxed into being.  What wants to come forth, will, and what needs to fall away, will. Life always wants to renew itself in this way, and asks us to provide the space to let it happen. The struggle ensues, when we resist the change that is trying to find it's way to us, and we are too fixed. It limits us in life, and in art.

Artist Bio

Jackie lived in the Northeast for the first half of her life, and often still visits those places she loves most in New England and  Western New York. She is as inspired by the landscapes, colors lakes and beaches back east, as she is by the beautiful light and energy of the desert Southwest, which is where she lived, with her husband and muse  Bob,  for 21 years.

She studied drawing and painting in Chicago, and at the Scottsdale Artists School, and Brio Fine Arts, as well as numerous Master Classes.  She became a full time professional artist 18 years ago, and started showing her work in galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona, and eventually in her own studio/gallery in Fountain Hills Az. Summer of 2022 she and her muse moved  back to Chicago, and she currently shows her work at her Studio Gallery in the Cornelia Arts Building. She
believes that art speaks and communicates in its own
visual language.  As she shares it with others, the viewer will find the piece that speaks directly to  them, meets them where they are, and speaks to our shared consciousness.
